There is no one device or solution that prevents all types of accidental childhood injuries.
Yet, as many as 90 percent of accidental injuries can be prevented.

Safe Kids Nebraska combines several factors to create programs that reduce injuries:

Educating adults and children
Creating safe environments
Advocating for effective laws

(Based upon Nebraska Injury Data and Safe Kids Worldwide recommendations.)

*          Increase public awareness regarding proper child safety seat installation
and the importance of seating children in the backseat of vehicles.

*          Promote bicycle helmet use for children and their parents.

*          Increase the installation and maintenance of smoke detectors.

*          Study the causes of childhood falls and educate parents and care givers about fall hazards.

*          Increase awareness among parents, coaches and care givers about the need for proper protective gear during recreational and sports activities.

*          Continue public awareness on the correct storage of poisons in the home and the need to call a poison control center immediately in the event of a possible poisoning.

*          Educate parents about the importance of setting their water heater temperature at 120 degrees Fahrenheit or less to prevent scald burns.
