There is no one device or solution that prevents all types of accidental childhood injuries. Safe Kids Nebraska combines several factors to create programs that reduce injuries: Educating adults and children (Based upon Nebraska Injury Data and Safe Kids Worldwide recommendations.) * Increase public awareness regarding proper child safety seat installation * Promote bicycle helmet use for children and their parents. * Increase the installation and maintenance of smoke detectors. * Study the causes of childhood falls and educate parents and care givers about fall hazards. * Increase awareness among parents, coaches and care givers about the need for proper protective gear during recreational and sports activities. * Continue public awareness on the correct storage of poisons in the home and the need to call a poison control center immediately in the event of a possible poisoning. * Educate parents about the importance of setting their water heater temperature at 120 degrees Fahrenheit or less to prevent scald burns. |
